Just want to know if there are any good stories that haven't been shared. Meet a guy with a De Tomaso? Rent an Aston? Uncle have a '67 427 Vette? Maybe you test drove a Lotus? Whatever it is, share it. I don't care if it's a VW Golf.

Mine would either be my pride an joy '71 2002 or a 1956 Ford Fairlane. Neither are rare, but both are damn special.

Just a '20s Model T. A relative got one a while back for the lulz. Next most special might have been the '63 318-powered Fury with a push-button auto - all original.

The genuine Caterham I got to drive was pretty damn special IMO. I've ridden in some pretty awesome cars, but that is by far the most special thing that I've ever actually gotten behind the wheel of.

'05 F430 Spider F1.

Awesome car.

So so brakes. Brembo could have done better. The carbon ceramics that become standard about halfway though 2007 were supposed to be better.

Owned: An '04 Mustang Mach 1. It was a brute, pure adrenaline machine.

My friend owns and I have driven: '05 CTS-V. It was shocking how much speed it would give without being brutal.

Test drove: '03 Mustang Cobra tuned up to 500 horsepower. Surprisingly civil until you mashed the throttle. Then the tires couldn't contain the power.

- Audi R8
- Porsche 911 S4
- Mercedes E63 AMG
- Lotus Exige
- Lotus Elise
- Audi S4/RS4
- Dodge Viper
- Mazda RX-8
- Formula Skip Barber race cars
- Audi A8
- Porsche Cayman S
- Ford Model A pickup

Best thing was probably the Jag F-Type V8S...not particularly exotic, but I was able to go to one of their driving events and drive as fast as possible around an autoX course. I also got to drive my wife's grandmothers MGB around for a day or two leading up to my wedding - not nearly as fast, but it was still pretty special.

I've never really owned a particularly "special," car. I've had some rare ones but that doesn't mean special — My Isuzu Pickup was one of only a few hundred of its type in the US and nearly all of them went to NAPA auto parts stores. For the record — 2WD longbed with flared fenders like the 4WD trucks, 2.3 5-speed. The flares and long bed were unique. I never saw another Isuzu like it but I have heard of them. It was pretty cool, and exactly what I needed from a $300 pickemup truck.

The most exotic car I've ever driven has to be a 996 Turbo. It was a beautiful machine. It was a 2001 and I got to drive it in January 2002. The guy who owned it walked into a Krispy Kreme and I nearly spilled his coffee on my hands as I was staring at the car. The girl I was working with (an unfortunate sufferer of megalomasty. Seriously — she was easily a JJ-cup on a 5'2" thin frame) asked me about the car and I spouted off some stats. He heard me and asked if I wanted to drive it. I said, "You're kidding, right?"

He said, "no," and handed me the key. We took it out to Providence road and wound up first in line at a stoplight. He said, "go ahead and get on it a bit," and I kicked it in the ass. By the time I shifted into third gear, we were going about 80 mph. In the rain. In a 25 zone.

Oh wow. It just stuck to the road.

my old Roadmaster Estate wagon was owned by the Bushes at their home in Kennebunk, ME (I picked it up at the compound). Pretty good wheels for an independent athiest who has no love for either administration.

I have driven more exotic whips but this one was mine. My Peugeot 504 break in the background is pretty special too and I still have it. Not the cougar, e34 wagon, or the w126 though

The rarest driven would be when I test drove an Isuzu Vehicross. Ridiculous fun for a SUV.

Also currently own a 1962 Austin Healey Sprite. Though 31,000 Sprite MKII/Midget MKI were made, I recently read there's only approx. 400-500 left in restorable condition. The fact that mine is an early model with the 948cc engine makes it more rare.

No. The MKII was from 1961-1964, and it is basically the same as the MKI bugeye mechanically, but with the updated styling on the exterior, though it still lacks exterior door handles and windows. If I'm able to find a bugeye that's as good as a deal as I got on my '62, I'll add one to my stable since I'm a fan of eccentric styling.

I'm genuinely stunned. Looking at pictures of the interior again, it makes some more sense, but Metro + too big = head asplode.

I'm guessing the seat travel is really limited? That probably excludes you from ever getting a Trabant, too, as the seat doesn't adjust (EAST GERMANY LOL). My Rabbit had the opposite problem - being a pickup, it didn't have the full range of seat movement back, and I'm 6'2". Always knees bent sideways while driving.

i once got to start and drive (for all of 15 feet) a mkII gt40. but for driving more than a mile, i'd say it would have to be a tube chassis dune buggy. no doors, no glass. expanded metal floor & turn-brakes. more fun than any mortal should have.

I drove a Ferrari F430 Spider around Maranello once. It was amazing. So that's probably the most unique and exotic car I've driven. But I'd have to say the most special car I've driven is the one I'm driving today, and every day, so long as it works. It better though, because I just spent 5k on it. Its an Alfa Romeo.

The F430 I drove had the e-diff. It was fun and sifted amazingly well. I think I would have been too nervous with the manual to enjoy the experience... This was also before I DD'd a manual. But AWESOME!!!!!

Same here. I was young enough to be less scared then than I would be now. The owner was the husband of my family's doctor, and he was a very successful lawyer. Needless to say, I think I was still more nervous than he was. My previous manual experience at the time consisted of an upgraded Mustang GT and a Miata. hahaha

This was about a year and a half AFTER I had learned (on a Mini) and hadn't driven a manual since. I could have rented a manual 512 but went with the F430 because it was the cheapest and I got to enjoy the hell out of it. Especially the part where I took it from 0-95 foot to the floor shifting a redline. On a 2 lane highway. Oh yeah. Def got some wheel spin!

I've seen Trabi racecars. I wonder how much it would cost to bulk import enough to do a small-scale racing event in the US? Import duty wouldn't be much, and you could economize on shipping like mad. I just compared dimensions, and it turns out with a properly designed racking, you could fit a *dozen* into a 40ft high-cube container, possibly as many as 14-16 disassembled...
